| Course description: | This course will fulfill the Department of Criminal Justice Services mandated Driver Training instructor re-certification requirements. All Driver Training Instructors must successfully complete the General Instructor Re-certification course. | |

below the rank of sergeant must be enrolled by a supervisor. |

| Course Requirements | ||
| Introduction: | This
course
is comprised of two training
module. Each module is composed of one or more sections (classes).
Students
who complete this course will be re-certified as Driver Training
Instructors and will earn 6 hours of career development in-service
credit. |

| Requirements: | Students
must
read the
material contained
in training module. After the student has read the material in the
module, he must take the module quiz. In order to successfully complete
the module quiz, the student must score 70%. The student will be given
two opportunities to successfully complete the quiz. At the director's
discretion, a third opportunity may be granted upon the request of the
student's chief, sheriff or agency administrator. |

| Lesson: | Driver Training Instructor Recertification | |
| Objectives or Goals: | The
objective
of this
course is to provide re-certification training for Driver Training
instructors and to provide refresher emergency vehicle operations
training. The student will: 1. Identify the differences between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles during acceleration, steering, and braking. 2. Identify how the different design can impact the overall handling of a front wheel drive vehicle. 3. Identify the acronym ASIPDE and explain its relationship to a driving style that is low-risk, high gain. 4. Identify the psychological and physiological factors that may affect an officer’s perceptions and judgment during an emergency response. 5. Identify factors that may impair vision and special considerations required while performing nighttime driving. 6. Identify factors concerning vehicular pursuits in the following situations: a. Justifying the initial pursuit b. Continuing the pursuit c. Terminating the pursuit 7. Identify the types and limitations of emergency warning devices on law enforcement vehicles. 8. Identify the legal and liability issues concerning law enforcement vehicular operations. 9. Identify the characteristics of insight driving. 10. Define proactive driving. 11. Identify the driving skills, psychological factors and physiological factors that contribute to effective pursuit driving and and skid avoidance. |

| Lesson: | Net Detective | |
| Objectives or Goals: | The
Net Detective module is a
guided, self-directed learning tool consisting of information that is
available on the world wide web. The objective is to permit
students to actively build their knowledge and understanding of the
topics covered in this course material. As students investigate each location, they will be given an assignment to complete. The assignments will vary depending on the nature of the course. For instance, students may be required to complete a site use tutorial so that they will know how to retrieve information for future reference, read a blog post that exposes them to a different viewpoint on a topic, explore how other criminal justice agencies have addressed a problem or simply build upon the informational foundation they received in this course. |
