Course title: Jailor/Court Services/Law Enforcement In-Service
Course number: JCSLE1004
Course description: This course is designed to meet the Department of Criminal Justice Services in-service training requirements for officers and deputies with a primary jailor/court services certification and a secondary certification as a law enforcement officer.

Prerequisite(s): Students below the rank of sergeant must be enrolled by a supervisor.

Course Requirements
Introduction: This course is comprised of five training modules. Each module is composed of several sections (classes). Students who complete this course will earn 40 hours of in-service training credit (4 hours legal/2 hours cultural diversity/34 hours career development).

Requirements: Students must read the material contained in each of the five training modules. After the student has read the material in a given module, he must take the module quiz. In order to successfully complete a module quiz, the student must score 70%. The student will be given two opportunities to successfully complete the quiz. At the director's discretion, a third opportunity may be granted upon the request of the student's chief, sheriff or agency administrator.

Module 1
Lesson: Legal Update
Objectives or Goals: The objective of this training module is to provide the student with a review of the legislative changes that passed during the most recent session of the Virginia General Assembly.

Module 2
Lesson: Death Issues
Objectives or Goals: The first objective of this module is to discuss the causes of police suicide, methods of prevention and dealing with the impact of police suicide.

The second objective of this module is to provide instruction on the proper procedures for delivering a death message.

The third objective objective of this module is to provide an overview of the benfits that are available to the survivors of Virginia criminal justice offices that die in the
line of duty.

Module 3
Lesson: Cultural Diversity - Hispanic
Objectives or Goals: The first objective of this module is to provide the student with an understanding of Hispanic culture.

The second objective of this module is to identify the general biases that are uniques to the members of the Hispanic culture.

The third objective of this module is to identify additional information resources and information about the Hispanic culture that are available on the internet.

Module 4
Lesson: Stress Management and Alzheimer's Disease
Objectives or Goals: The first objective of this module is to identify the causes of stress in the workplace.

The second objective of this module is to identify the methods of managing work stress.

The third objective of this module is to identify the symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease.

The forth objective of this module is to identify the appropriate police response to common situations involving victims of Alzheimer's disease.

Module 5
Lesson: Courtroom Testimony and Ethics
Objectives or Goals: The first objective of this module is to identify the proper procedure for preparing for and delivering effective courtroom testimony.

The second objective of this module is to discuss ethical issues that a criminal justice officer encounter in the course of performing his duties.

The third objective of this module is to discuss the concept of professionalism as it applies to criminal justice officers.

The fourth objective is to make officers aware of the dangers of passing vehicle while performing traffic enforcement duties.
