Donate To A Good Charity – Not Just A Good Cause
January 5, 2008 – 6:00 amIt is better to give than to receive but how do you decide where to send your hard earned money. The first thing you have to understand is that not all charities are created equal or managed well. Fortunately, there are several on-line watchdog groups that can help you tell the difference between the good charities and bad charities.
A good rule of thumb is that a good charity operation spends about 80 cents from each dollar you donate to accomplish their charitable purpose. The other 20% is used to pay for fundraising costs, administrative expenses, and management salaries.
Most people look for a good cause when they decide to donate but it is equally import to select a well managed charity organization. Before you break out your check book, surf on over to the websites below to make sure that your donation is going to well run outfit.
One Response to “Donate To A Good Charity – Not Just A Good Cause”
Donations, charities etc. are available every day. All you have to do is pay attention to people. It is not a habit of mine to give examples but
this was too good to pass up. Although most good deed are best left untold in my opinion.
Listen what happened to me this afternoon. I was in the customer service line at a local grocery store. As I stood there, I over heard a elderly man explaining to the manager that he had been grocery shopping for a elderly woman next door. He told the manager that after the clerk rang up the order and bagged the groceries the food stamp card would not clear.
He called the woman to find out what was wrong? She told him that she had figured the wrong date. The groceries could not be purchased until 1-8-08.The man turned to me and said ,”I feel bad but I do not have the money to cover this and how would she be able to repay me”. I said,” How much is this order?” He said, “$40.11! I told him to go and I would cover this cost. He said, “No, no I will come back tomorrow.” I simply said quietly, “Please just go.”
After I got in the car I looked at the receipt to find these items:
10 cans of soup (coupon used)
2 boxes of saltine crackers
2 generic pizzas
2 cans of tomato sauce
5# bag of potatoes
2# of onions,
buns and bread.
No cookies, chips etc. Just basic food. Needless to say I thought of our mom. This was by far the greatest gift not to her but for me. I thank God with all my heart that I was able to help. I feel donations are needed everyday and are right in front of us we just have to look! Great article thanks for bringing this up to all of us.
RICH’S RESPONSE: In addition to the fact that 100% of the charitable donation went to the cause – the bonus was the warmth in your heart.
