Using Secure Passwords
March 25, 2005 – 6:52 amMany folks don’t seem to realize the importance of selecting a secure password. Instead they use passwords that are easy for them to remembers like a birthdate, the name of a pet or child or some other personal data. Unfortunately, this also makes it easy for someone else to guess your password. Hackers also use dictionary programs in an effort to discover passwords.
So what constitutes a secure password? Ideally, you should use at least eight random characters that includes a mix of upper- and lowercase letters, numbers and punctuation marks. Unfortunately, these rules also make passwords hard to remember so you will need a secure or encrypted location to store your passwords. NEVER disclose your user name or password to a stranger over the internet or telephone.
