Face it, cops don’t make boat loads of money so it is very important that we learn to manage our money effectively. Unfortunately, most of us can’t afford to hire a professional financial planner so a little self-directed learning can make a big difference. UC Irvine has developed a fantastic on-line course entitled Personal Financial Planning. This course is not intended to be a brief course so don’t expect to knock it out in an evening or even a weekend. If you want to work through the whole course, expect it to take two to three weeks. Trying to do more than one module in an evening will be tough – in fact it may take a couple evenings just to complete one lesson.
You are probably looking at about 25 to 30 hours to complete the entire course. Of course, there is no requirement to do the full course. There are no tests and you don’t even get a certificate when you complete the course. Your reward will be much more significant than a piece of paper. You may just end up with enough money to send your kid to college or retire comfortably. You can’t beat the price, its FREE (as in beer). Check it out.
